Weekly Update January 29 – February 2

Dear Families and Caregivers,

Happy Groundhog Day! I heard that there were conflicting predictions on whether or not we will have an extra 6 weeks of Winter. I guess time will tell!

Professional Learning at Garibaldi Highlands Elementary

Today, our staff came together to learn more about anxiety with the help of a clinician from Child and Youth Mental Health in Squamish. We explored concepts of normal anxiety and problematic anxiety. We also discussed strategies and resources that are available to both schools and families. We shared strategies we’ve used in the classroom and discussed how we could continue to support families and students, especially those who are transitioning into elementary (in Kindergarten) and those who are moving on (Middle School).

We also had a workshop on ADHA lead by Mrs. Hardjono and Mrs. Manzini. We looked specifically at self-regulation strategies and tools that also fit nicely with the learning we did on anxiety. This learning also directly supports our School Improvement Plan.

These days are so important to our own continued learning as professionals and the work that we do often translates directly to our classrooms and our students. Our team did an amazing job of organizing this meaningful learning for all of us!

Upcoming Events and Reminders

  • If you know anyone who hasn’t yet registered for Kindergarten for the 2018/2019 school year, please encourage them to do so. This helps us tremendously in our planning and decision making. If you are moving out of our school and haven’t yet told us, please connect with the office as soon as you can.

Have a wonderful weekend.
