GHE September 25-29

Farewell September! Another wonderful week at GHE has come and gone. It’s hard to believe we went from preparing the daffodil garden under a blue sky with Mrs. Kindree and Mrs. Heikoop’s class to jumping in puddles at recess today. This week, students in Mr. Parsloe and Mr. Matheson’s classes prepared and presented the Routine Rally to our Primary Students. Students learned about expected behaviors inside and outside the school in a fun and interactive way. The Scholastic Book Fair was a great success as was the Potluck and Meet the Teacher evening. Thank you to PAC and families for all of your support. We ended our week honouring survivors of Residential School by coming together in circle, reading stories, doing art projects and other activities.

Additional Information:

Dogs on property: At this time, our school district’s draft policy states that “all dogs must be kept on a leash, tether, or other suitable device, and under the immediate care and control of a competent person. In the event a dog defecates on school district property, the competent person in control of the dog must immediately remove and dispose of the feces in a sanitary manner.”

At this time, we ask that you do not leave your dog unattended and that you keep your dog on a leash. We have had some concerns about dogs urinating on or close to play equipment and dogs fighting. I ask that you please respect our draft policy and help make our school grounds safe for all students and families. We will continue to work with our PAC on this policy and any changes that might occur once the policy has passed.

Water: I have been in contact with the School Board Office today regarding the safety of our drinking water. GHE tested well below the maximum allowable levels for lead in May of this year. Regardless of this, Vancouver Coastal Health has asked that any school in their region that tests below the maximum allowable levels still flush taps weekly. The water in the classrooms is potable but we are encouraging our students to use the fill station located in the hall.

Upcoming Events and Information:

  • Photo day is Monday, October 2nd
  • Our first Fire Drill will be Thursday, October 5th at 10:15 am
  • Our first Hot Lunch is Friday, October 6th

As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me directly.

Have a wonderful weekend!
