I hope that all of you had a safe and enjoyable summer. We are all very excited to be coming back to school and welcoming your children back to a new year of learning. This post contains some information updates for you in preparation for next week. We are anticipating a total student population of 400 students, up from 335 last year.
The first day of school for grades 1-6 will be Tuesday, September 8 and students will attend from 8:55 am to 10:00 am. During this hour, the PAC will be hosting a welcome tea for all parents. Although our Kindergarten students will not be starting classes until the following week, Kindergarten parents are welcome to come to the tea.
Wednesday will be a full day and students will be dismissed at 3:00 pm. A reminder that our warning bell is at 8:50am.
Students will return to their previous year’s teacher and any new grade 1-6 students to our school should report to the gymnasium where they will be welcomed and provided a temporary classroom to attend until Friday, Sept 11.
Students will be placed in their new classrooms on Friday, September 11. Similar to last year, we will send out another communication next week to help facilitate primary parents finding their children’s new classrooms at the end of the day on Friday. Please note that we are not able to accept parent requests for classroom placement.
Our recess bell schedule will change slightly and recess this year will be from 10:40 am to 10:55 am
As you know, our playground structure was damaged by a fire. My latest information is that the playground reconstruction will likely be complete by mid to late October. This is later than we hoped but the good news is that the playground will be brand new. We will be planning to have an alternate location for our Kindergarten students with some play equipment available to them while the reconstruction takes place. We appreciate your patience as we work to get this project completed for our students.
Based on feedback from parents, the school will be purchasing supplies on behalf of our Kindergarten to grade 3 students. The teachers will make the supplies available to students. The fees for the supplies are $35 for K/1 and $40 for 2/3.
The intermediate supply list is attached for your information (Grade 4 5 6 Supply List). It is the same list for grades 4-6 and it will be the responsibility of families to purchase the supplies.
Student Drop off and Pick Up
Parent parking is located in the top parking lot. The lower parking lot is for staff only. We anticipate that we will not have sufficient parking space at our school and so we will be asking parents to avoid parking in our parent parking lot as there are only about 25 parking stalls. The lot cannot handle the volume in the morning or afternoon.
If possible, please walk or bike to school with your children. If this is not practical or possible, you will need to park on the street or use the student drop off loop. There are no busses this year so movement through the loop should be a little more efficient. Make sure you leave plenty of time so that you are not in a rush. Being in a rush while dropping a student at school only leads to frustration.
The student drop off loop in front of the school is for drop off and pick up only. Vehicles CAN NOT be left unattended in the drop off loop. We will place pylons to help mark no parking spots. We appreciate your cooperation.
Thank you and see you soon!
